How we teach...
We will offer a vast education outdoors, immersing students in a learning environment, in ways that traditional models can’t. With a whole- child-led focus, students become invested in their education and foster a lifelong relationship with the land, their mentors and classmates, and the community. Here students are supported to push their own boundaries through safe mentor led supported risks, thereby teaching them independence, confidence, resilience, and perseverance. By offering more in an outdoor environment, allows children to develop a strong sense of self and a natural love of science, creativity, writing, natural history and more. In this design children are naturally accessing their whole imaginations, incorporating their whole focus, all the while growing into amazing earth stewards.
Inquiry-based learning starts with questions. Instead of just presenting fact after fact and then trying to tie them together some how, inquiry-based learning starts how any curious pursuit starts – with a question. That question serves as the base to which all information is added in order to find an answer.
Instead of being presented with a bunch of facts and having to figure out how they relate to each other, students are presented with, or come up with their own questions or inquiries and then have to search out supporting facts through research, observation, or experimentation.
We are working with our professional and lay leaders to take a balanced and active approach to our nature pod planning while following the County Guidelines.
"I am so pleased Leo decided to join your nature science class this semester. He is naturally introverted and sometimes finds it hard to join in group activity. He was thrilled about the active fun games and play used to start class. It really helps him to have some physical active fun before sitting down to focus. It has been fun watching him bloom and engage in your class. It is a testament to your willingness to meet children where there are and hold space for their being. Thank you for all the energy and wonderful creative work you and Scott do to engage our children in nature science.
I am grateful!!"
